World Obesity Day is a global event, held annually on March 4 to bring people together to raise awareness and increase knowledge about obesity and the many other diseases on which it impacts.

Organisations from six European countries won the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), and European Coalition for People living with Obesity (ECPO) World Obesity Day Europe Awards for 2020 and 2021.

Awards to be presented for the best initiatives

Brussels, 20 October 2020: World Obesity Day, held each year to draw attention to the growing obesity epidemic and the need for better prevention and treatment, is to be held this year on Thursday 4 March.

Individuals, healthcare providers and organisations are expected to take part and many of them will compete for several awards being given to the organisers of the most innovative and effective World Obesity Day initiatives.

Many European obesity treatment centres and clinics, forced to close due to COVID-19, are reopening again

October 1, 2020: Europe’s leading scientific research organisation for obesity and its affiliated patient organisation are urging patients to continue their treatment and not to let it lapse because of fears about COVID-19.

The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) and the European Coalition for People Living with Obesity (ECPO) say they are very concerned that people seeking treatment for overweight and obesity have either postponed or stopped seeking medical advice because of fears they may be putting themselves at risk.
